Lagaan (Hindi: लगान; Urdu: لگان; translation: Land Tax) is a 2001 Indian drama film written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Aamir Khan, who was also the producer for the film, stars with Gracy Singh in the lead roles; British actors Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne play the supporting roles. Made on a budget of Rs. 250 million (US$5.5 million), the film was shot in an ancient village near Bhuj, India.

Aamir Khan plays one of the lead roles in Dhobi Ghat, the movie being directed by his wife Kiran Rao.





Aamir Khan plays the role of a painter who works from his tiny studio-apartment in a congested Mumbai locality. The movie also stars Prateik Babbar and Monica Dogra.





Aamir had revealed on his blog stating, "The cat is finally out of the bag. I’m playing one of the leads in Kiran's film Dhobi Ghaat".





The movie is expected to be released in the second half of this year.

Aamir Khan Peepli Live Premiere at Melbourne

Aamir Khan's much talked about home production Peepli Live, is all set to be premiered at the upcoming Melbourne International Film Festival 2010. The festival to be held next month, will feature Peepli Live along with four other Bollywood films under a special category called 'Not Quite Bollywood'.

"The much talked about film that has a casting of stage actors will be specially screened on the second last day of the festival beginning July 22nd," Mitu Bhowmick Lange of Mind Blowing Films, the sole distributor of the film across Australia and New Zealand, said in Melbourne on Sunday.

Helmed and written by Anusha Rizvi in her first directorial venture, the film is a satire on the farmers' suicides and subsequent media and political response in the country.

Bhowmick said that Aamir Khan, who has produced and acted in the film, will specially fly down here to promote it during the festival.

"With Peepli Live the way we are trying to position the film is that its being positioned more as a World Cinema rather than a Bollywood film. Thats what we are following here," said Lange.

The festival has formed the special category 'Not Quite Bollywood' that will offer a selection of Indian cinema that rejects the glitz and glam of traditional Bollywood fare.

Peepli Live stars Omkar Das Manikpuri, Raghubir Yadav, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Naseeruddin Shah and Malaika Shenoy in the main roles.

The film is expected to hit the theatres managed by 'Hoyts' which looks after 450 screens in Australia but Lange's production company is also working hard to tie up with art houses across the city to showcase the film.

"We are in talks with art houses like Cinema Nova, Palace which are the loyal followers of world class cinemas,' Lange said adding that film was a unique in its own with a universal language that was surely to impress cinema lovers across the world," she said.

According to a program guide of MIFF 2010, director Anusha Rizvi and the other stars in the film will be present alongside Aamir for a special gala screening of Peepli Live.

The festival is an iconic event with films from over 50 countries to be screened over a period of 17 days.

Aamir Khan Dhobi Ghat Won Praise Toronto International Film Festival

Aamir Khan starring 'Dhobi Ghaat' has won praise from Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) co-director Cameron Bailey who compares it to savory 'salty lime soda over crushed ice!'

The film by debutante director and Aamir's wife Kiran Rao, will have its world premiere during TIFF 2010 that runs September 9 through the 19th.

Cameron compared some of the 51 films selected for the festival to drinks, over his Twitter account

When Sawf News asked Cameron why he picked Dhobi Ghaat for the festival he responded:

"Because it's not Bollywood: it's something fresh, something passionate from a very smart couple."

The film will be distributed by Aamir Khan Production. Aamir says he is taking the risk of going solo for this film - unlike Peepli Live and Delhi Belly, both of which he is co-producing with UTV - so that he has artistic freedom.

"If I want to have the freedom, I must also be prepared to take the financial responsibility in my stride. Even if I lose money, it's mine," Aamir recently told HT.

The film made headlines when Aamir and Kiran Rao got Oscar winner Gustavo Santaolalla of Argentina to Mumbai to score its background music.

Inspired by real life issues, the film has been guerrilla shot in Mumbai with hidden cameras to avoid catching public attention.

Aamir plays an art teacher and painter named Arun who lives in a small studio apartment in some congested area of Mumbai city. Prateik Babbar plays a washerman named Munna, the main protagonist in the film. Om Puri and debutant Monica Dogra of New York are among the rest of the cast.

Set in Mumbai, the lives of four characters intersect at Dhobi Ghat.

In the teeming metropolis of Mumbai, four people separated by class and language are drawn together in compelling relationships. Shai, an affluent investment banker on a sabbatical, strikes up an unusual friendship with Munna, a young and beautiful laundry boy with ambitions of being a Bollywood actor, and has a brief dalliance with Arun, a gifted painter. As they slip away from familiar moorings and drift closer together, the city finds its way into the crevices of their inner worlds.

Download movie 3 Idiots

Now users can legally download movie 3 Idiots, Aamir Khan's latest starrer which will release on Friday, 25th December.



But users will have wait for at least 12 weeks to download the film legally.

3 Idiots is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The cast of the film includes Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Sharman Joshi and Madhavan. Kajol will make a special appearance in the film.

3 Idiots is one of the most awaited films of 2009, which has not been a good year for Bollywood.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra revealed that 3 Idiots will be the first Bollywood film that viewers will be allowed to download legally.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra said, "This is the first film ever that you can actually download and watch on YouTube after 12 weeks from now."

He said that they planned to release the film on the popular website YouTube for those viewers who cannot afford to view the movie in multiplexes.

"I'm providing this facility for those who cannot see it on big screen and watch pirated movies. I just want them to discourage pirated prints. They just need to wait for 12 weeks and after that they can legally download the movie and watch it," said Chopra.

"Tomorrow if there is a facility to watch movies on mobile phones, the film will be available there but in appropriate time. We can't harm our theatrical business by releasing at DTH," Chopra added.

Amitabh to take Aamir Guidance to promote PAA

Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan are leaving no stone unturned to promote their upcoming films "Paa" and "3 Idiots" respectively – the two are meeting Sunday to discuss marketing gimmicks for both the films. "Paa" is releasing Dec 4, while "3 Idiots" hits the screens Dec 25.

Asin: Too early to talk about SRK project!
