Bipasha Starrer "All the Best" Did well over "Blue"

Finally the truth has prevailed. Between BLUE, MAIN AURR MRS. KHANNA and ALL THE BEST it is all the best that has become the hit in the Diwali package. It has again underlined the motif that comedy in conjunction with good and thumping music of the Rock kind has wider chance of extended honeymoon with the audience over action or a film on social dynamics.

With two of the finest comedians in the current crop in the form of Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn doing the honors, ALL THE BEST indeed had a chance of being able to stick its neck out, and it indeed has. Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn have committed fan-followers who are gaga over their action forte and after their metamorphosis as comedy stars they have indeed hit pay dirt manifest from the success of ALL THE BEST.

CHECK OUT: ALL THE BEST-FUN BEGINS Movie Review

In the season of strife, comedy is indeed going to be the balm and ALL THE BEST has proved the same. A factor that has to be kept in mind is that with the rise in the cost of tickets the audience had to be choosy, and it has chosen comedy. After all, from the times the element of mistaken identities became a subject of comedy with AANKEHN being the reference point, it always has hit bulls' eye. For Bipasha Basu as well, ALL THE BEST is a clear pointer to the fact that she could carve her niche as a successful comedy star, as it is one slot in the female category that goes begging to this date.

Comedy with a mixture of oomph is a deadly combination and Bipasha is an emerging as an epitome further consolidating her forte in this area. Another factor that has weighed in favor of ALL THE BEST is that though it is a comedy it has consciously avoided treading into the area of vulgarity, and therefore has emerged as a clean family entertainer, a niche in which the combination of Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty are slowly consolidating their niche.

ALL THE BEST also marks returns of Johnny Lever as a comedian of eminence once again and this time around he has not depended on his vocal prowess to do the comedy, but has relied on his other senses to do the comedy and indeed has given a new lease of life to his career.

ALL THE BEST is indeed going to bring about a good closing to the current year of Bollywood.

Blue Movie Review | Blue Movie is is kickass

Blue, the most awaited movie of the year - with its canvas as huge as the ocean - comes alive on screen this Friday. Like every biggie, this one also comes with the baggage of monumental expectations.

Let me keep it short - you haven't watched anything like this on the Hindi screen before. Never ever!

Anthony D'Souza puts his skills and the financial resources to best use. Blue is not merely a stunning looking film, it's also a well-structured film. Most importantly, it's a solid entertainer that packs in so much in those 1.58 hours.

Blue is set in the sun-soaked white sand beaches of Bahamas. Sagar [Sanjay Dutt] is a simpleton, while his friend Aarav [Akshay Kumar] is a rich, ambitious businessman.

Sagar's brother Sameer aka Sam [Zayed Khan] has inadvertently managed to rankle the mafia in Bangkok [Rahul Dev]. He flees Bangkok and arrives in Bahamas.

If you're a die-hard moviegoer, you'd draw parallels with a lot of international projects [especially The Deep] that were set in the ocean. In Bollywood, flashes of the Dharmendra-Jeetendra starrer Samraat cross your mind instantaneously, but comparing the two is akin to comparing chalk and cheese.

Blue grabs your attention from its opening titles itself. The marine life, which you may've watched on National Geographic Channel or Animal Planet, comes alive in all splendour at the start itself.

The story is uncomplicated and Anthony D'Souza garnishes it beautifully. If the aquatic life keeps your eyes wide open, the action sequences are sure to make your jaws drop to your knees. The bike chase at the start, yet another chase subsequently, the chase soon after the interval [atop a running train] is simply astounding.

On the flip side, the climax could've had more impact. The villain's track looks clichéd, but you tend to overlook the minor aberration since the film never falls prey to mediocrity.

Anthony D'Souza is a director to watch. This film has style as well as substance. Also, it requires courage and conviction to think out of the box and most importantly, execute the material with panache. There's not much scope for music in an action thriller, yet A.R. Rahman's score suits the requirements. The Kylie Minogue track, Chiggy Wiggy, is already popular. Sanju and Lara's romantic track, Aaj Dil, is sensuous. The song at the end credits, Fiqrana, has a lot of energy.

Sound design [Resul Pookutty] is fantastic. Action scenes [James D Bomalick and R P Yadav] are a treat and, in fact, one of the mainstays of the film. Dialogues [Mayur Puri] are effective, while the screenplay [Anthony D'Souza and Jasmine D'Souza] is well thought-out, especially towards the second hour.

Sanjay Dutt carries his part well, although he looks very well-fed in some scenes. Akshay Kumar steals the show with a sterling performance. Zayed Khan is highly competent.

Lara Dutta has never looked so good before. you can't overlook Lara's small but significant contribution to the film. Katrina Kaif [special appearance] looks gorgeous and performs exceedingly well.Rahul Dev is first-rate. Kabir Bedi is hardly there.

On the whole, Blue has style as well as substance. The film has everything going in its favour, right from its incredible star cast to the superb action scenes to the hitherto unseen marine life to the tremendous hype and hoopla. At the box-office, Blue will strike like a hurricane in the festive week. It should set new benchmarks in days to come.

Final word? Go, grab a ticket, if you haven't booked one yet. This under-sea treasure hunt is a kickass film. A must-see for all those who love adventure flicks.

Minissha said, “When I was told about my role, Sanjay was clear-cut and told me at the outset itself that some scenes needed me to wear a bikini and that too a white one! I essay the role of this hep girl… the kind who’d slip on a bikini when it came to swimming. I had no reservations about wearing a two-piece swimsuit.”

Minissha also revealed her fitness routine for turning her body sexy, “I did the usual dieting gymming routine to get a bod for the bikini.”

But for Minissha donning a bikini was not tough but finding a white bikini was toughest, ” The toughest part was finidng a stark white bikini. Normally they are in fluorescent colors or bright hues. But my designer Shilpa Bhatia who was styled me for the film managed to fine one. We shot the scenes in Mauritius. Though I know swimming, doing it in the ocean is different.”

(Trailer) Kidnap - Imran Khan, Sanjay Dutt

Kidnap is Sanjay Dutt's first major release this year and Imran Khan's next release after the blockbuster hit Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Imran Khan is set to rock the box office for the second time this year with his next movie Kidnap. It’s a menacing role and if reports are to be believed he looks amazing. The movie is directed by Sanjay Gadhvi (Dhoom fame).

In the movie, Imran Khan kidnaps Sanjay Dutt’s daughter Minissha Lamba. Imran Khan looks dashing in his new avatar with a tattoo on his neck.

Imran challenges Sanjay, 'everything you do - eating, sleeping, walking, talking - will be decided by me.' To which Sanju retorts, 'Go to hell.' From there the promo takes you on an action-packed ride with Sanju searching for his daughter relentlessly and Imran telling him, 'Hell is already here'.

Kidnap releases worldwide on October 2.

(Trailer) Talismaan - Amitabh Bachchan

Fantasy flicks are in vogue and the Bollywood fraternity has just woken up to a wide variety of Indian fantasy novels written down the ages. One such novel is titled Chandrakanta, written in 1892 by Babu Devaki Nandan Khatri.

In an attempt to bring fantasy to India, Vinod Chopra Films is adapting this book into a movie called Talismaan starring Amitabh Bachchan. As the story progresses from the storyboard stage, it is expected that Abhishek Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt will also been roped into the project. (Click to enlarge images)

Rumours also have it that Talismaan has been inspired by the Lord Of The Rings series and Harry Potter. Director Ram Madhavani rubbishes these rumours, stating, "Vinod gave me this book to read which was written 50 years before Lord Of The Rings and 100 years before Harry Potter. It has a unique Indianness and yet is modern and contemporary. It's time we had a fantasy film we can call our own and be proud of."

Amitabh’s Talisman look is evidently inspired from Ian MacKellen’s character of Gandalf from the Hollywood extravaganza ‘The Lord of the Rings’. In a white robe and with long white hair-locks, he is riding a white horse and guiding a battalion of soldiers. One vertical half of his face is covered with a mask. And while you expect a mythological touch to a fantasy set in India, you are surprised when Amitabh speaks in English shouting out ‘No War’ to the soldiers.

Talismaan is set to hit the floors in 2009, although Madhavani claims that the film being heavy on special effects will require the pre-production to start soon.
